Brookhaven Approves First Property Tax Increase in More Than a Decade
#wqeb973newz | Brookhaven ,GA-🏡 Property taxes are going up in Brookhaven for the first time in more than a decade.
The Brookhaven City Council voted Tuesday to increase the city’s operating millage rate from 2.74 mills to 3.85 mills, marking the first adjustment since 2015.
📈 City leaders say the increase is needed to cover rising costs, including fuel, insurance, health care and 911 services. Mayor John Park said the city has absorbed years of inflation without raising its tax rate.
💰 The city estimates homeowners with an $800,000 home could see their annual tax bill rise by about $400, while owners of a $1.575 million home could pay roughly $765 more per year.
🗣️ Some residents opposed the move, arguing Brookhaven was founded on promises of lower taxes and greater efficiency.
