Federal election monitors are expected to observe the 2026 election process in six Georgia counties, drawing mixed reactions from state officials and political leaders.
The U.S. Department of Justice plans to send monitors to four metro Atlanta counties, along with Chatham County in Savannah and Bibb County in Macon.
Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock expressed concerns about potential interference, saying officials must ensure the monitors protect voters’ rights rather than meddle in the election.
Meanwhile, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said he was not concerned, emphasizing that Georgia’s elections are secure and the process is transparent.
The Atlanta-based Carter Center also plans to deploy election observers, encouraging voters to participate without fear or concern.
