Federal Review of MARTA Safety Plan Continues Following Security Investigation

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the Federal Transit Administration is closely examining MARTA’s response to an ongoing safety and security investigation following several high-profile violent incidents on the transit system.

MARTA says it’s increased its police force, expanded crime prevention efforts and reported a 25% decrease in overall crime since 2024. Federal officials say they’ll review documents, conduct on-site visits and evaluate whether the agency’s safety improvements are making a meaningful impact.

The investigation comes after recent violent incidents, including the fatal stabbing of 66-year-old Margaret Swan.
