Georgia Braces for First Major Heat Wave of Summer as Heat Index Nears 100 Degrees

The first full weekend of the season is expected to bring rising temperatures, high humidity, and heat index values that could reach or exceed 100 degrees in some areas.

Meteorologists say a strong area of high pressure will keep conditions hot and sticky across the state through the weekend and into next week. While rain chances remain low, the lack of cooling showers could allow temperatures to climb day after day.

If you’re heading to the pool, lake, cookout, or spending time outdoors, remember to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, take breaks in the shade, and check on children, seniors, and pets.
