A Coweta County family says they are battling Georgia Power in a high-stakes fight over their longtime home as the utility company moves forward with major infrastructure plans tied to a growing development project in metro Atlanta.

Ansley Brown says the property — purchased by her mother in 2003 — could be taken through eminent domain as Georgia Power works to expand power lines connected to increased demand in Fayette County, including future data centers and other developments.

😟 “This is a real David and Goliath story,” Brown said.

The family says the emotional toll has been overwhelming, with Brown claiming the stress is deeply affecting her mother as negotiations continue.

Georgia Power says the project is necessary to support:
⚡ Growing power demand
🏗️ New manufacturing
💻 Data centers
🏘️ Future residential growth

The company says only a small percentage of land acquisitions involve eminent domain and claims it offered the homeowner “well above” fair market value for the property.

But the family argues they’re being pressured to settle under the threat of condemnation and court action. ⚖️

According to Georgia Power, around 20 to 30 homes could ultimately be demolished as part of the larger infrastructure project.

The case is now drawing attention from local lawmakers and residents concerned about property rights, development, and the growing impact of Georgia’s booming data center industry.
