Major I-285 Shutdown Begins This Weekend as Massive 3-Year Atlanta Construction Project Starts
#wqeb973newz | Atlanta,GA-🚧⚠️ MAJOR I-285 SHUTDOWN THIS WEEKEND ⚠️🚧
Drivers across metro Atlanta are being warned to prepare for massive traffic delays as portions of I-285 shut down completely this weekend for the start of a years-long construction project. 🚗🛑
GDOT says both sides of I-285 between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road will close as crews begin rebuilding nearly 17 miles of the interstate over the next three years. 🏗️
Officials warn the closure could create congestion far beyond Atlanta, with traffic impacts expected across the region during Mother’s Day weekend. 🌆⏳
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, avoid the area if possible, and use alternate routes through I-75, I-85, Camp Creek Parkway, and Thornton Road. 🗺️
The project will include new barrier walls, upgraded guardrails, drainage improvements, and smoother pavement aimed at reducing potholes long-term. 🛣️✅
