Atlanta City Council To Consider New Flock Safety Restrictions

#WQEB973NEWZ | Atlanta,GA-The Atlanta City Council is set to discuss proposed new restrictions on how police use Flock Safety surveillance technology and automated license plate readers.

Mayor Andre Dickens is seeking permanent citywide rules covering privacy, oversight and accountability. The proposal would include monthly audits of Flock searches, clearer guidelines for authorized use, additional training and restrictions on access by outside law enforcement agencies. 

The discussion comes after an Atlanta Police Department audit of 115,578 Flock searches conducted so far in 2026. Officials said 0.07% were flagged as potentially inappropriate, with investigations into those searches underway. 

The mayor’s office has said the City Council is expected to review the proposal before a final vote within 60 days.
