Atlanta’s Beloved Medu Bookstore to Close After 35 Years as Owner Retires

#wqeb973newz | Atlanta,GA-📚 End of an era in Atlanta.

A beloved African American bookstore that has served the community for more than 35 years is preparing to close its doors. Medu Bookstore, a longtime hub for Black authors, readers, and cultural conversations in southwest Atlanta’s Greenbrier Mall, will shut down as owner Nia Damali prepares for retirement.

For decades, the store welcomed literary icons, spotlighted emerging Black voices, and offered generations of readers a place that felt like home. While the bookstore will remain open for a few more months, its impact on Atlanta’s literary and cultural landscape will last far beyond its final day.
