Sugar Hill Keeps Flock Surveillance Cameras After Mayor Breaks Tie

Sugar Hill, Georgia, will keep its two Flock license plate surveillance cameras after Mayor Brandon Hembree cast the deciding vote against a proposal to shut them down. 📹

Council member Gary Pirkle introduced an ordinance that would have disabled the cameras and required council approval for any new installations. The vote ended in a tie, with Hembree voting no. The mayor also broke a second tie, placing city staff in charge of developing a policy for how the cameras will be used.

The debate follows concerns raised by Sugar Hill resident Stephen Greenewald, who asked the council in September to turn off the cameras.
