Euharlee Library’s Future in Question as City Council Weighs Major Funding Cut
#wqeb973newz | Euharlee,GA-📚🏛️ The future of Euharlee’s only public library could be decided this week.
City leaders in Euharlee are set to debate a proposal that could cut funding for the Emmie Nelson Library by nearly half, raising concerns about potential service reductions or even closure.
According to the Bartow County Library System, the city currently contributes $70,000 annually—about 2% of the library’s overall funding—with most support coming from county and state sources. Library officials say more than 7,000 visits were recorded last year in the city of fewer than 5,000 residents.
A community survey shared by the city found that 63% of respondents support keeping the library as it currently operates.
Beyond books, the library provides access to technology resources, including laptops, Wi-Fi hotspots, educational databases, park passes, and test preparation tools for students and job seekers.
The Euharlee City Council is expected to discuss the funding proposal during its June 2 meeting.
📖 Do you think local libraries should receive increased funding, maintained funding, or budget cuts?
