Georgia Lawmaker Pushes Bill to Put 988 Crisis Lifeline on Student ID Badges

#wqeb973newz | Macon,GA-Georgia lawmakers are pushing to put mental health help directly in students’ hands. 🧠📞

State Rep. Tangie Herring introduced the “You Are Not Alone Awareness Act,” which would require public schools to print the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline on student ID badges for students in grades 6–12. The bill comes after the tragic deaths of two Central Georgia middle schoolers by suicide earlier this year.

Supporters say putting 988 on student IDs would give kids a private, stigma-free way to reach out for help anytime they need it. The number connects callers to trained counselors 24/7 for mental health and crisis support.

The measure has already passed the Georgia House and now heads to the Senate. If approved and signed into law, it would take effect in public schools across the state.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you can call or text 988 for help. ❤️
