Crash Data Identifies Metro Atlanta’s Most Dangerous Roads as Reckless Driving Persists

#wqeb973newz | Atlanta,GA-🚗⚠️ Crash data is shedding new light on the most dangerous roads in metro Atlanta — and the numbers are alarming.

According to data compiled by the Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia sees more than 400,000 crashes every year, with the state ranking fourth nationwide for highway deaths. In metro Atlanta, several major corridors stand out for both the volume and severity of crashes.

📍 Roads with the most crashes include:
• Northside Parkway NW
• Alpharetta Highway / Peachtree Street
• Covington Highway
• Moreland Avenue
• Candler Road

📊 When crash severity is factored in — using GDOT’s ePDO metric, which weighs fatal and serious-injury crashes more heavily — Covington Highway and Old National Highway top the list as some of the most dangerous roads in the metro area.

Transportation officials say the data helps target problem areas for fixes like lane reductions, medians, and protected turn lanes — changes that have already reduced pedestrian crashes by as much as 90% on some Atlanta roads.

Still, GDOT stresses that driver behavior remains the biggest risk factor, with reckless driving cited as a major contributor to deadly crashes across the region.

🛑 “If you don’t have to go that fast, don’t go that fast,” one victim’s family member said. “You can hurt people — and families — forever.”
