Atlanta Public Schools to Redevelop Old Campuses Into Affordable Housing Units
#wqeb973newz | Atlanta,GA-Atlanta Public Schools is turning unused school properties into affordable housing. 🏗️🏠 The district is starting with the former Lakewood Heights Elementary School in Southeast Atlanta, a historic campus that closed in 2003 and was once slated for demolition. Through a partnership with the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation, the site is expected to be redeveloped into a mixed-use project with up to 60 affordable housing units, while preserving key parts of the original building for community gatherings and future use. 🏫➡️🏘️
City leaders say the effort supports Atlanta’s goal of adding 20,000 affordable housing units by 2030, while neighbors hope the long-neglected property will once again serve as a place for families and community connection. 🌱🤝
