Historic Ashby Street Theatre to Undergo Long-Awaited Restoration
#wqeb973newz | Atlanta,GA-🏛️ A piece of Atlanta’s history is getting a second chance
An iconic landmark on Atlanta’s Westside, the Ashby Street Theatre, is set to undergo long-awaited renovations — a process expected to take at least five years and cost around $15 million. Built in 1934, the historic theatre once stood as a symbol of access and opportunity for the surrounding community but has sat unused for decades as structural issues worsened.
The building, owned by the Atlanta Business League, will be restored with help from public and private partners, including grants from the National Park Service. Leaders say the revitalized space will eventually house the Black Business Hall of Fame and serve as a hub for entrepreneurs, education, and community collaboration.
Supporters hope the project will not only preserve history, but also spark economic growth and new energy along the Westside corridor.
